This is the layer most often overlooked, because it's the hardest to see and the easiest to leave in one person's hands.

Some families have one person for each of these layers. Most have a few people holding pieces of it, and the picture stays fragmented. One principal may know the everyday workings of the home, another may track the paperwork and payments, a family office may manage certain assets from a distance, an insurance company collects value and protection, and somewhere in between, the functional details float.
